Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma on Sunday emphasized the potential for Bangladesh and India to transform their geographical proximity into new economic opportunities. Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat after a meeting with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Verma highlighted the importance of a forward-looking, people-centric agenda to enhance economic collaboration.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the discussion between Verma and Chowdhury focused on cooperation in the financial sector, exploring emerging areas such as the digital economy and artificial intelligence, and improving the ease of doing business. These efforts aim to promote greater investment and deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.
The dialogue centered on enhancing trade and economic ties between the neighboring nations to facilitate more convenient economic engagement. Verma underscored the significance of making trade more convenient as part of improving business ease. Discussions also included cooperation in financial sector reforms and leveraging technology to foster inclusive economic participation.
Verma shared India's successful experience in financial inclusion, describing the discussion as forward-looking. He characterized the meeting as positive, noting the significant potential for collaboration between the large economies and societies of India and Bangladesh.
At an earlier Iftar event, Verma remarked on the potential for shared prosperity between the two nations. He affirmed India's support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh. The event, attended by a diverse cross-section of Bangladeshi society, reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
