Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Pranay Verma, emphasized New Delhi's unwavering support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh while hosting an Iftar reception attended by government leaders and distinguished citizens.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the High Commissioner reiterated India's long-standing support at a reception held in the capital, underscoring the deep-rooted friendship and enduring people-to-people ties between India and Bangladesh. Verma described the gathering as a testament to the strong bonds of friendship and close societal and familial connections between the two neighboring countries.
Verma highlighted the shared history and profound cultural connections between the nations, recalling the indelible memory of their shared sacrifices during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, which continues to unite the peoples of India and Bangladesh.
The event was attended by local government minister and BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with several of his cabinet colleagues, including energy minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, civil aviation minister Afroza Khanom Rita, and state minister for foreign affairs Shama Obaed.
The presence of these distinguished guests at the Iftar was noted by Verma as a reaffirmation of the collective commitment to further strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation. He also remarked on the promising future for both nations as vibrant and forward-looking societies, poised for shared prosperity and regional cooperation.
Verma conveyed his best wishes to the people of Bangladesh observing the holy month of Ramadan, expressing hope that the sacred month would bring peace, prosperity, and wellbeing to all. He described Ramadan as a deeply special time of reflection, compassion, and generosity.
