Chittagong hill tracts: Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan today cautioned against any political or other considerations in preparing the government-planned ‘family cards’ for the people of the southeastern rugged region. ‘The officials and law enforcement agencies concerned will have to play a proper role in ensuring transparent distribution of family cards prepared by the administration,’ he said as Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Salma Begum called on him at his residence in the hill district.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dewan emphasized that political or party affiliation must not be considered while preparing the list of beneficiaries. He noted that the planned family cards would designate women as the head of the family, reflecting a key government objective to ensure women’s participation at every level of society, addressing concerns that women in CHT might otherwise lag behind.

The Deputy Inspector General of the police’s armed combat branch briefed the minister about the activities of the newly established APBN units in the three hill districts of Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban. She also informed the minister about APBN’s ongoing activities to maintain peace and order in the hill region.

Dewan assured her of necessary cooperation from the government for APBN, highlighting the importance of collaboration between government bodies and law enforcement to ensure the success of initiatives in the region.
