Dhaka: The Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA) under the Ministry of Education has released inspection and audit reports for 973 educational institutions, revealing nearly Tk 90 crore misappropriated through various irregularities. These reports were based on thorough investigations conducted over a six-month period from July 1 to December 31, 2025, as detailed in a press release from DIA Director Professor M M Shahidul Islam.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DIA teams conducted on-site inspections across various districts, uncovering significant evidence of forged certificates, fake appointments, and numerous financial irregularities. The reports highlight issues such as forged or fake certificates, unacceptable certifications, fraudulent recruitment, direct embezzlement of funds, and financial discrepancies related to VAT and income tax.
The Directorate has recommended the recovery of Tk 89,82,25,607 to the government treasury and suggested actions to reclaim 176.523 acres of illegally occupied land belonging to these institutions. The reports are now available on the Directorate’s official website, and copies have been disseminated via email to relevant educational authorities and institution leaders.
Institutions that have not yet received their reports can obtain them from district education offices or by submitting an application on official letterhead via email, with a promise to resend the report within three working days. The directive emphasizes that there is no requirement for physical visits to the Directorate to obtain the reports.
In discussions with BSS, DIA Joint Director Professor Md Idris Ali emphasized the importance of these measures in promoting transparency and accountability in the education sector. He noted that the investigations revealed numerous forged or fake certificates, including teachers’ registration and BEd certificates. The Directorate has recommended the Ministry of Education take stringent action against those implicated, with final decisions pending after further hearings.
