Khulna: Former lawmaker and ex-president of Khulna city unit BNP, Nazrul Islam Manju, will assume charge as Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) tomorrow. On his inaugural day, Manju plans to engage in a views-exchange meeting with city stakeholders and political leaders, aiming to gather opinions before commencing developmental activities, as informed by KCC sources.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Manju has identified infrastructure development, waste management, water logging removal, road improvement, and citizen services as primary challenges during his tenure. He emphasized the importance of involving city residents in development activities. The KCC has made preparations to ensure that the joining ceremony is participatory and well-organized, with around 500 guests invited to the event.
The guest list includes lawmakers from Khulna district's six constituencies, university vice-chancellors, political leaders, government office heads, educational institution principals, senior officials from service agencies, and representatives from various professional bodies, including doctors, teachers, lawyers, and journalists. Also invited are urban planners, NGO representatives, environmental activists, civic organization leaders, and representatives of rickshaw pullers, easy-bike drivers, and workers' groups.
KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed noted that the outgoing and incoming administrators have scheduled the formal handover of responsibilities for Sunday noon, following mutual discussions. All necessary formalities have been completed. KCC Administrative Officer Molla Maruf Rashid mentioned that the program will commence at 2.15 pm at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium and the GIZ conference room on the third floor of Nagar Bhaban. An LED display has been set up on the ground floor to facilitate participation from stakeholders and political leaders, where the new administrator will first exchange greetings before proceeding to the formal ceremony upstairs.
The government appointed Nazrul Islam Manju as KCC Administrator on February 23. He submitted his joining letter to the Local Government Minister at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
