Dhaka: The government has set the minimum Fitra at Tk 110 per person, while the maximum has been fixed at Tk 2,805. The decision was announced during a meeting of the National Fitra Determination Committee at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque conference hall.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the meeting was presided over by the committee’s president, Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, who is also the khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. The committee decided unanimously that, in accordance with Islamic Shariah, Fitra can be paid using any of the staple items such as wheat, barley, raisins, dates, or cheese.

The rates were set based on market prices of these items, which were collected from all divisions across the country. Fitra, an obligatory charity, is distributed to the poor at the conclusion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and is intended to be paid before the jamaat (congregation) of Eid-ul-Fitr.
