Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Wednesday announced that the government will not establish a new probe commission regarding the Pilkhana carnage, as a national independent commission is already active. This declaration came as he addressed reporters after honoring the victims of the Pilkhana BDR carnage at Banani Military Graveyard in the capital.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Home Minister emphasized that proper justice will be pursued for the Pilkhana carnage and assured that necessary measures will be undertaken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. He highlighted that an independent national investigation commission was formed during the interim government period, and its report is currently available. Despite having the report during the interim government, limited actions were taken for its execution.
Salahuddin mentioned that the report comprises approximately 70 recommendations, which he intends to examine thoroughly. He noted that many of these recommendations are already in the process of being implemented and assured that the judicial process would be completed while the remaining recommendations would be gradually enforced.
He further pointed out that the previous government had established two committees concerning the Pilkhana carnage, but their findings were never disclosed to the public. Salahuddin Ahmed described the Pilkhana carnage as a significant threat to Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty, asserting that it was aimed at undermining the nation’s armed forces.
He concluded by stating that such intentions could only originate from those who do not believe in Bangladesh’s sovereignty or who wish to see the nation in a weakened state.
