Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Sunday indicted 11 people, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman, in a case concerning the murder of Imam Hasan Taim during the July uprising.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the three-member bench of ICT-2, led by its Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam, framed the charges and instructed the commencement of the trial in the case. The tribunal has scheduled March 29 for the hearing of witness depositions.
Among those accused, former officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan and former sub-inspector Shahadat Ali, who were arrested, were presented before the tribunal. The other accused in the case include Joint Commissioner of DMP Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty, former Deputy Commissioner of Wari Zone Iqbal Hossain, former Additional Deputy Commissioner Shakil Mohamamd Shamim, former Additional Deputy Commissioner (Demra) Masudur Rahman Manir, former Assistant Police Commissioner Nahid Ferdous, former Inspector of Jatrabari Police Station Zakir Hossain, former Inspector Ohidul Haque Mamun, and former Sub-Inspector Sazzad-uz-Zaman.
Prosecutor Mizanul Islam represented the prosecution, while Advocate M Hasan Imam and Lokman Hawlader stood for the state. On January 24, the tribunal submitted a chargesheet against the eleven accused.
Imam Hasan Taim, the son of a police officer, Moynal Hossain Bhuiya, and a sub-inspector at Rajarbagh Police Lines, was shot dead during the July uprising in Kajla of the Jatrabari area of the capital on July 20, 2024.
