Rajbari: A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Alauddin Patwari, attended his father’s funeral in Rajbari on Saturday night after being granted temporary parole. The funeral took place at the Eidgah ground near his family home in Nimtala village of Sadar upazila around 7:30 pm. Alauddin, 28, attended the event with a rope tied around his waist as a security measure.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Alauddin, the son of Shukur Patwari from Nimtala and the organizational secretary of Sadar upazila unit Chhatra Dal, has been held in Rajbari District Jail for the past two and a half months due to an arms-related case. His father’s passing occurred on Saturday afternoon, prompting Alauddin to express a desire to be present at the funeral.

The family petitioned the Rajbari Deputy Commissioner for temporary parole, which was approved by DC and District Magistrate Sultana Akter. Alauddin was granted one and a half hours of parole, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm, to attend the funeral. He was accompanied by police and Detective Branch personnel to his village in Nimtala. During the funeral prayer, his hands were uncuffed, but a rope remained tied around his waist.

In a statement, Alauddin claimed, “I am a victim of political vengeance. I was sent to jail on false charges of possessing weapons. Unable to endure my imprisonment, my father passed away today.” Ariful Islam Roman, president of the Rajbari District unit Chhatra Dal, supported Alauddin’s claim, stating he is a victim of political revenge.

Khondakar Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, confirmed that Alauddin was allowed to attend the funeral under police supervision following the family’s request and the district magistrate’s approval. After the funeral, Alauddin was escorted back to jail. The officer mentioned that the jail authorities could explain the necessity of the rope tied around Alauddin’s waist.

Alauddin’s arrest occurred on December 1 last year, when police apprehended him with a foreign-made revolver and a sharp weapon in the Nimtala area. Following the arrest, a case was filed with Rajbari Sadar Police Station, leading to his incarceration in the district jail.
