Turkish President’s Son and Footballer Ozil Visit Rohingya Camps in Bangladesh

Cox’s bazar: An 11-member delegation led by Bilal Erdogan, son of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Germany’s World Cup-winning footballer Mesut Ozil arrived in Cox’s Bazar to visit Rohingya camps. The visit marks a significant engagement in highlighting the ongoing humanitarian efforts for the Rohingya community.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the delegation, which includes Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Chairman Abdullah Eren, landed at Cox’s Bazar Airport at 10:30 am via a special flight on the second day of their visit to Bangladesh. Upon arrival, they met with Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman at his office in Cox’s Bazar.

During a brief media briefing, Bilal Erdogan stressed the importance of a dignified and respectful repatriation process for the Rohingya to their homeland. He affirmed the continued support of the Turkish government and its people in providing humanitarian aid to the Rohingya community.

The delegation proceeded by road to visit the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar. Additionally, they plan to visit Turkey’s field hospital in Camp 9 and the Education and Cultural Centre operated by Turkey’s cooperation and coordination agency in Camp 16. Their itinerary also includes attending a friendly football match, a prize-giving ceremony for a Rohingya football tournament, and participating in the first Iftar of Ramadan with the Rohingya community.
