Dhaka: Six elected members of the National Citizen Party (NCP) were sworn in as members of Parliament and the Constitution Reform Council (CRC) on Tuesday. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath at the Oath Taking Room of Sangsad Bhaban at 1:05 pm.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the ceremony was conducted by Parliament Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Moula. Earlier in the day, members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) took their oaths solely as members of the 13th Parliament, excluding the Constitution Reform Council aspect.
The MPs-elect from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam had already taken their oaths as members of both the 13th Parliament and the CRC at 12:22 pm. The 13th parliamentary election and a referendum on the July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Order 2025 occurred last Thursday in 299 of the 300 constituencies, celebrated in a festive and peaceful environment.
The Election Commission published a gazette on Friday announcing 297 elected MP candidates, withholding results for Chattogram-2 and 4 due to court orders. The election for Sherpur-3 was canceled following a candidate’s death. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman opted for a by-election in the Bogura-6 seat, taking his parliamentary oath from the Dhaka-17 constituency.
In terms of election results, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured 209 seats, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami won 68. The National Citizen Party (NCP) claimed victory in six constituencies, with independent candidates winning seven seats. Other parties such as Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Jatiya Party-BJP, Ganaodhikar Parishad, Ganasamhati Andolan, and Khelafat Majlish secured one seat each.
Overall, the BNP-led electoral alliance emerged victorious in 212 constituencies, while the Jamaat-led electoral alliance captured 77 seats.
