Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced a significant decision on Tuesday, stating that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Members of Parliament (MPs) will not accept any duty-free cars or government plots. This declaration came after the first meeting of the BNP Parliamentary Party (BNP) at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the BNP Parliamentary Party unanimously elected party Chairman Tarique Rahman as the Leader of the House. This election paves the way for Tarique Rahman to form the new government as Prime Minister. The ministers are scheduled to take their oaths at the South Plaza of Parliament at 4 p.m.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described the event as a historic moment, emphasizing the transition from a period marred by repression and the erosion of democratic processes. He highlighted that the nation has finally achieved a credible parliament through elections that were hard-won through significant sacrifices.
With a majority in parliament, the BNP has chosen its young leader, Tarique Rahman, to guide the parliamentary party. The newly elected BNP MPs took their oaths earlier in the day in the oath-taking room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administering the oath.
This development follows the 13th parliamentary election, which was held on February 12, marking a new chapter in the country’s political landscape.
