Dhaka: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Thursday called upon political parties and candidates to uphold democratic values, tolerance, and mutual respect even after the announcement of the final results. ‘There will always be differences of opinion, but we must remain united in the greater national interest,’ he said in a statement. Prof Yunus emphasized that Bangladesh has once again demonstrated that the people are the ultimate source of power. ‘Together, we will move forward to build an accountable, inclusive, and just state,’ he added.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Prof Yunus described the election as a moment of great pride and celebration, marking the beginning of an unprecedented new chapter in the journey of a renewed Bangladesh. He stated that the just-concluded twin elections were the most peaceful and festive in the country’s history, expressing hope that democracy would reach new heights of excellence if this positive momentum is sustained. ‘Let us continue working together to further strengthen our democratic foundations,’ he urged as voting concluded.
The interim government extended its sincere congratulations and gratitude to the entire nation for ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and celebratory atmosphere during the 13th National Election and the referendum on the implementation of the July National Charter. After casting his vote, Prof Yunus noted that the enthusiastic participation of voters, the responsible conduct of political parties, the restraint shown by candidates, and the professionalism of all election-related institutions collectively reflect the nation’s unwavering commitment to democracy. By exercising their constitutional rights, he said, the people have played an active and decisive role in shaping the country’s future.
‘I extend my special thanks to the Election Commission, law enforcement agencies, the armed forces, the administration, observer teams, media personnel, and all officials and staff involved in conducting the polls,’ Prof Yunus stated. He acknowledged that this landmark democratic exercise was successfully completed due to their dedication, discipline, and tireless efforts.
