Thakurgaon: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday expressed confidence that the country is on the verge of having an elected government and parliament through the ongoing national election. He highlighted the unexpectedly festive nature of the voting process, noting the enthusiasm and interest shown by the people as remarkable. Fakhrul reported having visited approximately a hundred polling centers, observing that the election was conducted peacefully and smoothly.
According to United News of Bangladesh, a total of 20 candidates, including two women, are competing in the three parliamentary constituencies of Thakurgaon district. Specifically, three candidates are vying for Thakurgaon-1, seven for Thakurgaon-2, and ten for Thakurgaon-3. The district has 12,55,017 registered voters, consisting of 5,98,488 women, 6,70,022 men, and seven transgender individuals. Additionally, 10,292 voters, including 2,326 women and 7,966 men, have registered to vote via postal ballots.
Mirza Fakhrul expressed optimism about the election outcomes, emphasizing his belief in a positive result. He underscored the significance of this election, stating that the people of Bangladesh will finally have an elected government and parliament after a prolonged struggle spanning 16 years. Fakhrul also conveyed his confidence in securing victory in the election.
