Dhaka: The government has announced a nationwide prohibition on drone operations effective immediately, extending until February 15, as part of efforts to uphold security and public order. The directive emphasizes that any breach of this ban will be considered an offence under the Civil Aviation Act of 2017.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) issued a notification stating that while the restriction is comprehensive, it exempts law enforcement agencies and defense forces when performing official duties. The ban does, however, permit conditional drone operations for purposes such as research, surveys, agriculture, and monitoring activities. These activities, whether conducted by government or private entities, along with broadcast purposes of events organized by government agencies, will require prior application to the CAAB and clearance from all relevant agencies.

The notification further cautions that any individual operating a drone in violation of this restriction will face penalties under Section 24 of the Civil Aviation Act, 2017. This move underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining rigorous standards of security and public safety across the nation.
