Panchagarh: NCP north region convener and Jamaat-led 11 party alliance candidate for the Panchagarh-1 constituency, Sarjis Alam, made a bold declaration today, affirming that they will not tolerate any form of vote rigging and are prepared to safeguard the ballots at all costs.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sarjis Alam emphasized the gravity of their commitment during an election campaign held at the Jalashi Area of Panchagarh Poura Town. He stated, “If necessary, we are ready to sacrifice our lives, but we won’t allow a single vote to be stolen. Those who are dreaming of vote rigging should bid farewell to their homes, they will end up in hospital.”
Alam also issued a stern warning to the current Election Commission (EC), suggesting that any attempts at election engineering would result in severe consequences. He remarked, “If the current EC, even minimally, tries to realize any attempt to election engineering, their fates will be the worst that they even couldn’t imagine.”
In addition to addressing election integrity, Sarjis Alam outlined his development plans for the region over the next five years. Key proposals included upgrading Tetulia and Atwari into municipalities, establishing a full-fledged hospital with 250 beds and an ICU, as well as setting up a medical college and a university in Panchagarh.
To further improve infrastructure, Alam promised the construction of a bypass road to alleviate traffic congestion, with approval and work potentially commencing this year. He also pledged to revive the Panchagarh Sugar Mill and foster industrial development to create jobs.
Sarjis Alam addressed workers’ welfare, criticizing the practice of purchasing votes from the labor community for 200-500 taka and subsequently keeping them in a state of servitude for five years. He promised that the next generation of workers would not have to remain in labor roles, asserting that their children would become engineers, doctors, and barristers. He proposed the creation of a Workers’ Welfare Trust to ensure education, healthcare, and income support during unemployment periods.
Further, Sarjis Alam expressed his determination to free government and administrative organizations from political influence, aiming to enhance citizen services.
The election campaign was chaired by the district NCP convener ABM Zulfikar Ali Nayon. Other notable speakers included District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Iqbal Hossain, Naeyeb Ameer Maulana Mofiz Uddin, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Panchagarh District President Mir Morshed Tuhin, Panchagarh City Jamaat Ameer Maulana Zainal Abedin, and District Chhatra Shibir Secretary Mohibullah Muhib.
