Jashore: Two earth-cutting workers were critically injured when a bomb exploded while they were digging soil in Sharsha upazila of Jashore. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, leaving the local community in a state of shock and concern.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the injured individuals have been identified as Abdul Kader, 45, and Zakir Hossain, 48, both residents of the village. The explosion took place when the bomb, buried about one and a half feet underground, detonated after being struck by a hoe. The blast resulted in significant injuries to both workers, necessitating immediate medical attention.

The victims were promptly taken to the 250-bed Jashore General Hospital for treatment. Among the two, Zakir Hossain’s condition has been reported as critical, raising concerns about his recovery.

Maruf Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge of Sharsha Police Station, stated that initial suspicions suggest the bomb had been buried underground for a long time. The police are actively investigating the incident to determine whether it was part of any planned act of sabotage or an isolated occurrence.

In response to the incident, additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, ensuring the safety of the residents while the investigation continues.
