Mal©: The Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives has facilitated the repatriation of a seriously ill Bangladeshi migrant worker, arranging for his return to Bangladesh to access advanced medical treatment.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives, Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, personally provided Fajar Ali, an expatriate worker from Bangladesh, with an air ticket funded by the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. This initiative underscores the mission’s commitment to the welfare of Bangladeshi nationals abroad.

Fajar Ali, hailing from Chandina upazila in Cumilla district, initially migrated to the Maldives legally with the necessary clearance from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET). His predicament began when a workplace accident left him with serious injuries after hot water spilled on his feet while he was employed as a chef at a guest house in Mal©.

Following initial treatment at a local hospital, medical professionals recommended that Ali return to Bangladesh for further medical care. In response to this urgent need, the Bangladesh High Commission issued a travel permit at no cost, resolving issues related to his expired passport and visa, and coordinated his flight arrangements.

Ali is set to depart for Bangladesh today on a US-Bangla Airlines flight. High Commissioner Islam emphasized that the High Commission is devoted to supporting Bangladeshi expatriates in the Maldives, asserting that it is both a duty and a moral obligation of the mission to ensure the medical care, welfare, and rights of migrant workers are protected.
