Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today expressed confidence in the upcoming 13th national election, stating that he did not foresee any challenges to peaceful voting, given the improved election environment compared to previous polls. “Holding the next general election will no longer be challenging. The election will be held in a fair, peaceful, and festive manner. Compared to past national elections, the atmosphere this time is quite favorable,” he remarked.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made these comments while addressing questions following a medal distribution ceremony of the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) at its headquarters in Agargaon. Chowdhury emphasized the importance of patience and caution among all stakeholders to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election. He mentioned that law enforcement agencies have already been deployed across the country, urging everyone, particularly the media, to assist the government in facilitating a smooth election process.

When questioned about the seizure of illegal firearms, the Home Adviser explained that operations are being conducted regularly. He highlighted the recovery of firearms used in the killings of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi and Mosaddek, underscoring ongoing efforts to maintain law and order. Commenting on the situation in the Sundarbans, he stated that the region remains stable, attracting more tourists to this popular destination.

During the medal distribution ceremony, the adviser called on Coast Guard personnel to uphold neutrality, professionalism, and integrity in their duties to ensure a credible national election and referendum scheduled for February 12. “Perform your duties with complete impartiality and professionalism during the forthcoming parliamentary national election,” he instructed.

Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Ghani and Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Hoque were among those present at the event.
