Dhaka: Md Rubel Ahmed, a close associate of Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Rahul, the prime suspect in the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesman Sharif Osman Hadi, has provided a confessional statement in court. Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman recorded Rubel's statement after he was presented in court by the investigation officer, CID Police Assistant Superintendent Abdul Qadir Bhuiyan. This development follows two rounds of remand totaling nine days, as confirmed by Prosecution Sub-Inspector Rokonuzzaman.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Rubel was subsequently sent to jail after his statement was recorded. He was apprehended in the Ati Nayabazar area of South Keraniganj late on January 21. The court initially granted a six-day remand, followed by an additional three days last Wednesday.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi served as the spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho, a political and cultural platform established after a significant uprising. On December 12, around 2:20 pm, attackers on a motorcycle shot Hadi on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Model Police Station before escaping. He suffered critical gunshot wounds to his head and below his right ear.
Hadi was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and then transferred to Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore for advanced treatment on December 15. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on December 18 while being treated there.
In response to the incident, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case with Paltan Police Station on December 14. The case was later reclassified as a murder case following Hadi's death.
