Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced that Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 has significantly bolstered law and order throughout the country, with the arrest of 22,464 crime suspects. The operation, which commenced on December 13, 2025, has seen these arrests as of January 25, 2026.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chowdhury shared these insights during a Core Committee meeting on law and order held at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The operation has also led to the recovery of 483 firearms, 4,660 rounds of bullets, 799 cartridges, and 1,084 indigenous weapons. Additionally, grenades, mortar shells, gunpowder, fireworks, and bomb-making materials were confiscated during the operations.

The Home Adviser further stated that a total of 64,628 individuals have been apprehended nationwide, including 42,164 detained on specific charges and warrants. To curb criminal activities and facilitate the retrieval of unlawful and stolen weapons, the number of check posts and patrols has been increased across the country.

Highlighting recent successes, Chowdhury mentioned that RAB, Police, and BGB have executed a series of effective raids, resulting in the capture of armed terrorists, drug traffickers, and murder suspects. These efforts have also led to the seizure of foreign pistols, revolvers, detonators, explosives, pipe guns, and substantial quantities of marijuana and Yaba tablets.

He also emphasized the role of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in recovering firearms, mortar shells, mine safety caps, and shotguns in various border operations, as well as intercepting narcotics valued at millions of taka. Furthermore, 14 unarmed members of Myanmar security forces recently surrendered to the BGB amid ongoing tensions in Rakhine State.

Chowdhury concluded by asserting that Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 will persist with unwavering intensity until terrorism, illegal arms, and drug networks are entirely dismantled, ensuring complete public safety.
