Dinajpur: National Citizen Party (NCP) candidate Dr Abdul Ahad, running under the Jamaat-led alliance for the Dinajpur-5 constituency, has committed to implementing the July Charter if elected in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election. Dr Ahad aims to uphold the dignity of the people through this initiative.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Ahad has promised advancements in the development of local mineral resources, the creation of employment opportunities, and the establishment of a corruption-free society. He envisions building a modern and livable environment in the Parbatipur and Phulbari upazilas. Addressing his electoral pledges, Dr Ahad emphasized the community’s desire for peace and security, free from terrorism, corruption, and extortion.
Dr Ahad also addressed the issue of irregularities in resource extraction at Barapukuria Coal Mine, the coal-based power plant, and Madhyapara Hard Rock Mine, promising to eliminate these if elected. He highlighted the importance of youth employment and improving healthcare and medical services in both upazilas.
On the matter of adhering to the electoral code of conduct, Dr Ahad asserted that the NCP was established through a disciplined movement, and its leaders and activists are strictly following the Election Commission’s rules to ensure a fair and peaceful campaign.
Dr Ahad reiterated the significance of the July Charter and the referendum, highlighting the NCP’s leading role in the July movement. He called for justice for those harmed during the movement and firmly supported a ‘Yes’ vote in favor of the July Charter in the referendum.
Expressing optimism about the upcoming election, Dr Ahad noted that a free and fair poll would enable voters to exercise their rights and expressed confidence in his party’s strong chance of victory through public support.
The Dinajpur-5 constituency includes Parbatipur and Phulbari upazilas, comprising two municipalities, 17 unions, and 141 polling centers. The total number of voters is 477,516, including 238,584 male voters, 238,930 female voters, and three voters of the third gender. Other candidates contesting in the constituency include BNP nominee Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman, Jatiya Party’s Kazi Md Abdul Gafur, independent candidate AZM Rezwanul Haque, BNP leader Zakaria Bacchu, Advocate Md Hazrat Ali Belal, and Md Rustam Ali.
