Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today announced that foreign diplomats in Bangladesh have expressed full confidence in the Election Commission's ability to conduct a free, fair, neutral, and credible 13th national parliamentary election. This assurance was conveyed during a meeting held with diplomats from various embassies and missions at the Westin in the capital's Gulshan area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC made these remarks while addressing journalists post-meeting. He emphasized the Election Commission's commitment to transparency and credibility, detailing the preparations and processes undertaken to ensure a smooth electoral process. The diplomats reportedly appreciated these efforts and expressed satisfaction with the EC's readiness for the upcoming elections.
Nasir Uddin further assured that the commission's activities are designed to prevent vote-buying and to uphold the integrity of the electoral process. He shared the commission's plans regarding law enforcement deployment, stating that the army and Ansar forces would collaborate with the police to ensure security during the polls. The diplomats were informed of this action plan and showed their understanding and satisfaction with the transparency and objectives outlined by the commission.
Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) organized a briefing for foreign diplomats stationed in Bangladesh, outlining preparations for the forthcoming national parliamentary election and referendum. The meeting, which commenced at 10:00 am at the Westin Hotel's Ballroom in Gulshan, was attended by CEC AMM Nasir Uddin, Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Tahmida Ahmad, Md Anwarul Islam Sarker, Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah Brig Gen (retd), and Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed, along with other senior officials.
Ambassadors, high commissioners, and representatives of various countries, as well as officials from the European Union and the United Nations, participated in the briefing. According to EC sources, the diplomats received detailed information on the overall election preparations, electoral process, the appointment of international observers, measures to ensure transparency, and the prevailing law and order situation, among other pertinent issues.
