Dhaka: Vice-Chancellor of the National University (NU), Prof Dr. A S M Amanullah, today stated that the university is actively working to make higher education job-oriented to ensure students become skilled professionals, alleviating the financial burden on their families post-graduation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during a views-exchange meeting with heads of NU-affiliated institutions in Cox’s Bazar, held at Cox’s Bazar Government College, Prof Dr. Amanullah emphasized, “The National University is committed to transforming students into skilled human resources. Alongside moral development, making higher education job-oriented is now a key priority of the university.”

Prof Dr. Amanullah highlighted the university’s role in managing approximately 70 percent of the country’s higher education, with the majority of students hailing from middle- and lower-middle-income families. He noted that to enhance employment prospects, the university has overhauled outdated syllabuses and introduced mandatory ICT and English courses at the undergraduate level.

Further, he mentioned the university’s collaboration with organizations such as the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), the National Skills Development Authority, and UNICEF to offer technical training opportunities to students.

Discussing syllabus modernization, the VC stated that curricula are being updated to prioritize modern technology and align with industry and institutional needs. “Our main objective is to ensure that at the end of their academic life, hundreds of thousands of youths can either quickly enter the job market or establish themselves as entrepreneurs,” he added.

Prof Dr. Amanullah also pointed out the tourism potential of Cox’s Bazar, advocating for the introduction of professional courses in “Tourism and Hospitality Management” in the district.

The discussion was presided over by Cox’s Bazar Government College Principal Prof Abdul Hasnat Md. Mofizul Haque, with Pro-VC of the National University, Prof Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, and Treasurer Prof Dr. A T M Zafrul Azam attending as special guests.

Earlier, the VC inaugurated the 2026 inter-college sports competition of the National University for Cox’s Bazar district by releasing pigeons and balloons at Cox’s Bazar Government College.
