Rangpur: A training workshop focused on preventing misreporting and promoting objective news in the media was conducted in Rangpur, coinciding with the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections. Organized by the Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) in collaboration with the Rangpur district administration, the event took place at the Rangpur Circuit House conference room, gathering local journalists to enhance their reporting skills.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop witnessed the participation of BPC Chairman Justice AKM Abdul Hakim as the chief guest, with Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan presiding over the event. Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali and Director of the Divisional Information Office Dr. Md Mofakkharul Iqbal delivered speeches as special guests, emphasizing the significance of ethical journalism.
Justice AKM Abdul Hakim, while addressing the attendees, highlighted the necessity for media workers to be aware of their rights and the importance of unity in realizing these rights. He stressed that despite personal political preferences, journalists must maintain professional neutrality. The workshop covered crucial topics such as responsible journalism practices for the upcoming elections, the Election Policy 2025 for media workers, the Code of Conduct for Journalists, and relevant legal frameworks like the Bangladesh Labor Act and the Right to Information Act.
BPC Secretary Md Abdus Sabur served as the resource person for the workshop, underscoring the global respect for journalism as a profession and the indispensable role of ethics within it. He urged journalists to strive for objectivity and highlighted their critical role in encouraging voter participation in the forthcoming elections.
A total of fifty-two media workers from various outlets in Rangpur participated in this comprehensive, day-long training session, aiming to fortify their ability to deliver unbiased and factual reporting during the electoral process.
