Dhaka: BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to visit the country’s northern region for four days from January 11 to 14. BNP has formally informed the concerned Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Returning Officers (ROs) today about the visit.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ABM Abdus Sattar, Personal Secretary to the Acting Chairman of BNP, sent a letter to the DCs and ROs of the districts of Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Bogura, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, and Kurigram. The letter outlined that Tarique Rahman will visit the graveyards of martyred July fighters and those killed in the democratic movement to pay homage. He will also participate in prayer gatherings and attend religious and social programs to pray for the salvation of the soul of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
The letter emphasized that the tour is part of religious and social programs and will not violate the Code of Conduct of the Bangladesh Election Commission. Necessary security and overall cooperation have been requested for the visit.
As per the itinerary, Tarique Rahman will travel to Bogura from Dhaka on January 11 via Tangail and Sirajganj. He plans to stay overnight in Bogura and will proceed to Thakurgaon from Bogura on January 12, traveling through Rangpur (Pirganj) and Dinajpur. After an overnight stay in Thakurgaon, he will reach Rangpur via Panchagarh, Nilphamari, and Lalmonirhat on January 13. He is scheduled to return to Dhaka from Rangpur on January 14, passing through Bogura (Gabtali).
The program includes visiting and holding prayers at the graveyards of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, July martyr Abu Sayeed, Tarique Rahman’s maternal grandmother late Tayeba Majumdar, and martyrs of various democratic movements and the July Uprising. Tarique Rahman will also hold courtesy meetings with the families of martyrs and injured July fighters.
