Nomination Papers of 1,842 Candidates Validated Nationwide for Upcoming Election

Dhaka: Nomination papers for 1,842 candidates have been declared valid for the 13th Parliamentary Election after a comprehensive scrutiny process conducted by the returning officers and assistant returning officers across all 300 constituencies. The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed that 723 nomination papers were rejected due to various reasons.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the EC’s notification reveals that a total of 3,406 nomination papers were collected for the 300 parliamentary seats. Of these, 2,568 nomination papers were submitted to the returning officers. Following a thorough scrutiny process, 1,842 nomination papers were validated, while 723 were rejected.



The scrutiny of nomination papers for former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was concluded without verification due to her passing. The EC provided a breakdown of valid and rejected nomination papers by region. In the Dhaka region, 309 out of 442 nomination papers were validated, while 133 were rejected. In the Rangpur region, 219 out of 279 were valid, and 59 were rejected. Rajshahi saw 185 valid and 74 rejected out of 260. For Khulna, 196 papers were valid and 79 rejected out of 275 submissions. In Barishal, 131 out of 162 were valid, with 31 rejections. Mymensingh had 199 valid and 112 rejected out of 311 nominations. Faridpur saw 96 valid and 46 rejected out of 142. Sylhet had 110 valid and 36 rejected out of 146 submissions. In Cumilla, 259 out of 357 were validated, with 97 rejected. Lastly, Chattogram had 138 valid and 56 rejected out of 194 submissions.



Candidates intending to appeal the Returning Officers’ decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can submit their appeals to the Election Commission starting tomorrow (Monday).
