Dhaka: The Jagannath University (JnU) authorities have decided to suspend all classes and examinations planned for January 6 due to the JnU Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) election taking place on that date. However, university offices will continue to operate as usual.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was announced today through a notification signed by JnU acting Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Sheikh Gias Uddin. The notification stated that classes and examinations will be closed on January 6 to ensure the election proceeds smoothly, while the university’s offices will remain open.
The university authorities have urged teachers, officials, employees, and others to refrain from bringing private vehicles to the campus on the election day. This measure is likely intended to minimize congestion and facilitate the electoral process.
Initially, the election was scheduled for December 30 but was postponed due to the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. During her tenure in 2005, the JnU ordinance was passed. The rescheduling of the election to January 6 was decided in an emergency syndicate meeting following her passing.
