Dhaka: Awami League (AL) will be unable to participate in the upcoming elections scheduled for February 12 next year, as confirmed by Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today. Alam clarified that the activities of AL remain banned in the country, which prevents them from taking part in the electoral process.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the press secretary addressed the media at a briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy. He emphasized that the government's position is clear regarding the Awami League. With the Election Commission having revoked AL's registration as a political party, their participation in the election is not possible.
When questioned about a letter reportedly sent by five US lawmakers to the Chief Adviser expressing concern over the ban on AL's activities, Shafiqul Alam stated that he was not aware of such correspondence. "We have not seen this letter. At least I have not seen it, and I am not aware of it," he stated, dismissing any knowledge of the document.
Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahmmad was also present during the briefing, supporting the statements made by Shafiqul Alam.
