Dhaka: Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker today emphasized that the upcoming February 12 polls must be the best in history, reflecting the commission’s high expectations for the electoral process. During a meeting at the Nirbachon Bhaban in the capital, Sarker communicated this vision to field-level administrative and police officers, including divisional commissioners and police range chiefs or DIGs.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sarker expressed the Election Commission’s optimism about the upcoming election, describing it as potentially the best in history. He stressed the importance of strong coordination among officials, warning that the commission would not overlook any lapses in this regard. The meeting, chaired by EC’s Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, was also addressed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin.

The gathering included commissioners from all eight divisions, eight deputy inspectors general (DIG), as well as deputy commissioners, police supers from all 64 districts, and field-level EC officials. In total, 226 officials attended the meeting. Sarker reminded these officials of their accountability to the law, emphasizing the Election Commission’s independence and their role within it.

Sarker conveyed that there was no reason for the officials to be fearful but stressed the collective responsibility for the successful execution of the elections on February 12, 2026. He cautioned that failure would not only reflect on the commission but on Bangladesh as a whole. Noting that all election-related activities were progressing smoothly at the field level, except for the assassination of candidate Sharif Osman Hadi, he urged officials to actively engage in their duties on behalf of the Election Commission.
