Khulna: An international-standard WiFi network, Eduroam, has been officially launched at Khulna University (KU) to provide seamless and secure internet access for teachers, students, and researchers. Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim formally inaugurated the Eduroam service at the university cafeteria today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Director of Student Affairs Professor Dr Md Nazmus Sadat, Director of the ICT Cell Professor Dr Sheikh Alamgir Hossain, students from different disciplines, and relevant officials. Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the introduction of Eduroam marks an important step towards transforming KU into a smart and modern research-oriented institution.

He highlighted that KU teachers and students would benefit from uninterrupted and secure internet connectivity while pursuing higher studies, conducting research, or participating in seminars both locally and internationally. This development is expected to further accelerate their academic and research activities.

Eduroam is a globally recognised secure international networking service tailored for educational and research institutions. It allows teachers and students to access WiFi networks across any Eduroam-enabled campus worldwide using their home university credentials. Once logged in, devices will automatically connect when entering any Eduroam network zone, ensuring a high level of security and data privacy protection.

With universities and research institutions in over 100 countries connected under the Eduroam network, KU’s participation enables its teachers and students to use the service free of charge. The university’s ICT Cell announced that students can configure the Eduroam network on their laptops or smartphones using their official university email ID and password. Detailed setup guidelines are available in the respective disciplines and on the university website.
