Chattogram: Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), in collaboration with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and district police, has implemented stringent security measures across various churches in the port city and district in anticipation of Christmas celebrations, which are considered the most significant festival for the Christian community.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, security checkpoints and continuous patrols have been increased in churches under 16 police stations in the city and 15 thanas in the district. An Additional Deputy Commissioner of CMP stated that law enforcement agencies will maintain a vigilant presence at key locations throughout the city and district to mitigate any potential incidents. Preparations for Christmas celebrations in the city’s churches have been finalized, complementing the churches’ own security measures.

In addition to heightened security, the festive mood is evident as hotels and restaurants have been adorned with decorations, and Christian households are busy setting up Christmas trees. Special prayers were conducted at major churches, including Patharghata Catholic Church, the largest in the district, as well as at Jamalkhan and Pahartali Catholic churches.

To further ensure safety, intelligence agencies are on high alert, with additional police forces stationed at every church. Detective police units have been assigned across each division, while SWAT and bomb disposal units are on standby to provide comprehensive security coverage.
