Rangpur: Students of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) have renamed two academic buildings to honor the heroic patriotism and supreme sacrifices of anti-hegemonic martyrs Sharif Osman Hadi and Abrar Fahad, ensuring their legacy is remembered for generations. After the Zuhr prayers today, students of the university renamed Academic Building-3 as Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi Bhaban and Academic Building-2 as Shaheed Abrar Fahad Bhaban by hoisting banners on the respective buildings.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ahmadul Haque Alveer, a student of the Accounting and Information Systems Department, expressed that the university is not just a place to earn degrees, but a foundation for justice, protest, and humanity. “Through the renaming of the buildings, we want to convey the message to future generations that the heroic patriotism and supreme sacrifice of martyrs Sharif Osman Hadi and Abrar Fahad will forever be an inspiration for patriotism for youths,” he said.
Nejaz Ahmed, a student of the Department of Gender and Development Studies, emphasized the educational impact of the renaming, stating that future generations will recognize the courage and sacrifice of their predecessors. Mehedi Hassan, from the Economics Department, remarked on the enduring legacy of the martyrs, noting their sacrifices against repression. “They will live on for generations, and our programme today is to preserve that memory and spirit forever,” he said.
Md Rahamat Ali, a student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, highlighted the emotional connection to the martyrs. He stated, “The place of all patriotic children against foreign hegemony in this land is not only on the nameplate of the buildings, but in the deepest place of our hearts.” He further noted the students’ role in making history by renaming the buildings despite administrative procedures.
Md Shamsur Rahman Suman, from the Department of Bengali, underscored the students’ sense of responsibility in renaming the buildings. “Our hearts, feelings and patriotism are inseparable from martyrs Sharif Osman Hadi and Abrar Fahad. They will remain an inspiration of patriotism to future generations who will forever protect our motherland from foreign hegemony,” he said.
