Dhaka: The chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, Additional Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam, stated that operations are ongoing to apprehend those involved in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi. “We are currently on hot pursuit in arresting the accused in the Hadi murder case,” he remarked during a briefing to journalists at the Bangladesh Secretariat regarding Operation Devil Hunt Phase 2 and the overall law and order situation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DB chief confirmed the arrest of 10 individuals in connection with the case and the recovery of items linked to the incident, including the motorcycle, weapon, bullets, and passport. However, two key suspects, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir, remain at large, with some quarters allegedly providing misleading information about their whereabouts. “We are verifying information about their location and continuing efforts to arrest them,” said Islam, emphasizing the high priority of the investigation.
Responding to inquiries, Islam suggested that the murder might be politically motivated rather than stemming from personal enmity. Investigations have also uncovered that the motorcycle’s number plate was altered, which was confirmed through BRTA records. Authorities are further examining recovered cheques and related bank accounts in connection to the case.
