Dhaka: The United States Senate has officially confirmed veteran diplomat Brent Christensen as the next US Ambassador to Bangladesh, ending a key diplomatic vacancy that had remained unfilled for more than a year. “I am honored to be confirmed by the United States Senate and deeply grateful to President Trump for the opportunity to serve as the next United States Ambassador to Bangladesh,” Christensen expressed on his verified LinkedIn page following his confirmation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during his nomination hearing at the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, the ambassador-designate stated that the United States supports Bangladesh in its journey toward a bright and democratic future. He emphasized the significance of the upcoming elections, noting that the people of Bangladesh are expected to go to the polls early next year in what he described as the country’s most consequential election in decades, to choose a new government and a new path forward.

Christensen also highlighted his extensive experience of over two decades working on US policy toward Bangladesh throughout his Foreign Service career, which includes a previous posting in Dhaka. His official profile on the State Department’s website notes that he served as Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs at the US Embassy in Dhaka from 2019 to 2021.
