Dhaka: Eighteen student organisations, including Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir (BICS), have today accused the fallen fascist forces, previously blamed for genocide, of orchestrating a series of targeted killings aimed at the leaders of the 2024 July Mass Uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the groups issued a joint statement condemning the recent attack on Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi and presented six key demands, including the call for exemplary punishment for those involved. The student bodies highlighted the current threats facing Bangladesh, citing conspiracies and activities against independence and sovereignty. They portrayed Bin Hadi as a resolute opponent of these threats.
The student leaders alleged that the ousted fascist Awami League and its allies attempted to assassinate Bin Hadi as part of a larger strategy to fragment national politics and rehabilitate themselves. They described the attack as a continuation of terrorist activities by the fallen fascist forces, aiming to silence voices against Mujibism, fascism, and cultural degradation.
The statement further accused ousted fascist leader Sheikh Hasina, reportedly in India, and her associates of targeting the frontline leaders of the July Mass Uprising. The leaders asserted that the attack was part of a deliberate effort to dismantle the leadership and aspirations of the uprising while seeking to politically revive the fallen fascist forces.
The statement expressed concern over the lack of progress by the government in apprehending those responsible for the attack, despite five days having passed since the incident. They also claimed that individuals with direct involvement in mass killings during the July uprising are being released on bail, instilling fear through violence and covert attacks.
The organisations accused certain media figures and groups of attempting to generate sympathy for the Awami League, which they view as a betrayal of the July Mass Uprising's spirit. They demanded immediate legal action against journalists allegedly harboring fascist agendas.
Among their six demands are the immediate arrest and punishment of all terrorists involved in the attack on Bin Hadi, the highest level of state security for uprising leaders, the repatriation and trial of accused criminals, including Sheikh Hasina, confiscation of assets of businesspersons linked to fascist forces, swift action against individuals promoting fascist agendas within the administration and media, and nationwide operations to recover illegal weapons and ensure public safety.
The statement was endorsed by leaders from the 18 student organisations, including Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, Islami Chhatra Andolon Bangladesh, JAGPA Chhatra League, and others.
