Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has scheduled a hearing for December 22 regarding charge framing against Salman F Rahman and Anisul Huq. They are accused of inciting mass killings and other crimes against humanity by imposing curfew during the July Mass Uprising. The tribunal's two-member panel is led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, who issued the order earlier today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Senior Advocate Monsurul Haque Chowdhury represented Salman F Rahman and Anisul Huq at the tribunal, while Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam appeared for the prosecution. The formal charges were submitted by the prosecution on December 4, which the tribunal has since taken into consideration.
The case documents reveal that Salman and Anisul had a telephonic conversation during the July Mass Uprising. During this call, they allegedly expressed support for eliminating protesters. This conversation was reportedly followed by widespread firing on protesters across the country, leading the prosecution to charge them with incitement to violence.
Both Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman were apprehended on August 13, 2024, in Dhaka's Sadarghat area as they attempted to flee the capital using river routes. They have been detained in jail since their arrest.
