Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today called upon all to be vigilant so that Bangladesh does not once again gain the identity of a fascist state. “Deceiving the people will not work. We do not want to be known globally as a fascist country again. We will fight against misrule, Insha’Allah. We want to build a humanitarian Bangladesh,” he said while taking part a discussion as the chief guest at Jatiya Press Club here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion titled “The Great Liberation War, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and the Current Political Context,” was organized by the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB). Dr Moyeen Khan mentioned that recent figures show Bangladesh as the most densely populated country in the world, with 36.6 million people residing here. He pointed out that by 2050, Dhaka will become the world’s largest, most densely populated city and stressed the need for effective city management.

He criticized the ruling Awami League, labeling their governance as an oligarchy system, which he claims has led to increased poverty. Highlighting the ongoing search for democracy even after 54 years of independence, he emphasized that the struggle for human rights is an ongoing battle. He expressed the need for accountability among past and present leaders for their shortcomings and called for future leaders to offer hope and solutions.

DAB President Prof Dr Harun Al Rashid presided over the event, with Treasurer Dr Mehedi Hasan moderating. Advisor to the BNP Chairperson Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and other notable figures also spoke at the event, discussing issues ranging from the return of Tarique Rahman to the legacy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

Prof Dr Farhad Halim Donor highlighted the connection between the Great Liberation War and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, noting his contributions to building a self-reliant Bangladesh. In his address, Prof Dr Harun Al Rashid underscored the importance of remembering the roles played during the Liberation War and expressed confidence in the BNP forming the government through the people’s mandate in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.
