Savar: National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Md Nahid Islam today said the security of the July fighters cannot be ensured by relying on the government or police, stressing that people must ensure their own safety through mobilizing public strength.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid emphasized the importance of self-organization and mobilization among the people, urging them to take charge of their security. “Our security must be ensured by ourselves. For that, we need organisation among the people. We will once again call upon the people to come forward. After August 5, we ensured our own security when there were no government and no police. Bangladesh is moving towards a similar situation,” he stated.

Nahid made these remarks while speaking to reporters after paying tribute to the martyrs of independence by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar on the occasion of the Great Victory Day. He reflected on the country’s history, noting that although Bangladesh achieved independence, the people have faced repeated deception over the past 54 years.

He further commented on the nation’s journey, stating, “We failed to build the country we had envisioned with the promise of the Liberation War. Equality, human dignity and social justice were not established; instead, fascism was entrenched.” The NCP convener linked the current political climate to past struggles, highlighting the continuity of the fight against fascism from 1947 to 2024.

Nahid expressed optimism regarding the upcoming elections, predicting a strong public mandate in favor of reforms. He shared that NCP candidates would campaign door to door with the ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol, seeking support for reforms and pledging not to return to the pre-August 5 situation.

He also alleged that certain forces were attempting to destabilize the country and disrupt the election process. He reiterated the necessity for self-reliance in ensuring safety, cautioning against depending solely on the government.

Nahid called on the youth to remain united and committed to future-oriented politics. The event was attended by other NCP leaders, including Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Organiser for the northern region Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara, and Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari.
