Rangpur: Police have arrested Morsalin, a 22-year-old mason's assistant, on charges of involvement in the murders of freedom fighter Yogesh Chandra Roy, 75, and his wife Surbana Roy, 60, in Taraganj upazila of the district. The arrest occurred in the early hours of Friday in the Shermast Balapara area of Taraganj upazila, as confirmed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Saiyum Talukder, the Investigation Officer of the case.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Morsalin had worked at the Roys' house setting tiles just two days before the brutal murders. The retired freedom fighter and former Primary School Headmaster Yogesh Chandra Roy and his wife were found dead in their home in Rahimapur village of Taraganj upazila on Sunday morning, after neighbors became concerned and knocked on their door.
The couple's eldest son, Shoven Chandra Roy, subsequently filed a murder case with the Taraganj Police Station. During initial questioning, Morsalin confessed to his involvement in the double murder, as stated by Md Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Taraganj Police Station.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and have initiated a search at a pond near the victims' home to retrieve the murder weapon. An axe handle has already been recovered from the pond, where water drainage operations are ongoing. Police have gathered significant information from Morsalin, but details remain undisclosed to protect the integrity of the investigation.
