8-Day Book Fair Begins at RU to Promote Reading Habits

Dhaka: An eight-day Book Fair commenced at Rajshahi University (RU) campus today for the second consecutive year, aiming to foster a culture of reading among both students and the general public from an early age. The event, organized by the RU authority, is being held at the Shahidullah Arts Building premises.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fair was inaugurated by RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naqib, who served as the chief guest. During the opening ceremony, Prof Naqib emphasized the vital role of reading in developing a prosperous and enlightened society in Bangladesh. He remarked, “Only through books can people be enlightened and become complete.”



The inauguration was also attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Mayeen Uddin and Professor Emeritus Dr. AKM Azharul Islam, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Khan presiding over the event. Prof Naqib underscored the necessity of making books more accessible, asserting their importance in providing knowledge about the outside world and contributing to the mental growth of children through easy and creative literature.



A total of 78 stalls have been set up by various publishers, featuring an extensive selection of books. The fair is open to visitors daily from 10 am to 8 pm until December 18. In addition to the book exhibition, the event will host cultural and literary programs on diverse themes every evening at the venue.
