Dhaka: The Bangla Academy has announced a comprehensive schedule of events to commemorate Martyred Intellectuals’ Day on December 14. The observance will begin with the laying of wreaths at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur and the Rayerbazar Killing Ground at 8 am, paying homage to the sacrifices of the nation’s intellectuals.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day will also feature a discussion session slated for 4 pm in the Poet Shamsur Rahman seminar room at the Academy. This session will be led by Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam, with a welcome address by the Academy’s Secretary, Dr. Md. Selim Reza.
The discussion will include contributions from notable speakers such as Hasanath Kayum, president of Rastro Songskar Andolon, Professor Swadhin Sen from the Department of Archaeology at Jahangirnagar University, Dr. Navine Murshid, a professor at Colgate University in the USA, and writer and artist Arup Rahee. The event will also feature a keynote paper presentation by writer and researcher Tahmidal Zami, titled ‘The Speech and Life of the Intellectuals’ or ‘Buddhijibir Joban O Jibon’.
