Dhaka: German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Rdiger Lotz announced that seven German nationals will participate in the long-term European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) for Bangladesh. Additional German observers will be present during the polling days to monitor the electoral process closely.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during a press briefing at the German embassy, Dr. Lotz emphasized that a substantial EU mission is being deployed for the upcoming national election. Germany will contribute a significant number of observers throughout the various phases of the electoral process. The long-term segment of the EU mission will see seven German observers arriving in January, with many more short-term observers joining closer to the election days.

Dr. Lotz highlighted the importance of international support for the elections, stating, “I think it is very important to have this kind of international support.” He stressed the necessity of a peaceful political environment, urging all parties to refrain from violence to ensure free and fair elections. He reiterated Germany’s support for Bangladesh’s electoral process through the EU mission and commended the interim government’s commitment to credible polls.

In response to a question, the ambassador clarified that German observers would operate under the EU delegation, with no separate German mission. All German observers will work within the EU EOM framework.
