Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline until 9:00 am on December 9 for expatriate Bangladeshis to correct their addresses in the Postal Vote BD app. This extension is aimed at facilitating their participation in the 13th national general election and the referendum.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this information was made public today in a message sent by the EC to the media. Salim Ahmad Khan, Team Leader of the Out of Country Voting System and Implementation project, confirmed the extension to BSS. The EC's message highlighted that this decision was made following special requests from expatriates who needed more time to correct incorrect or incomplete addresses in the 'Postal Vote BD' app.

The EC has urged expatriate Bangladeshis to provide accurate addresses during registration to ensure they receive their postal ballots. Voters are encouraged to provide addresses that comply with the regulations of their residing country, and if necessary, to use their workplace or an acquaintance's address. The provision of correct and complete addresses is crucial for the delivery of postal ballot papers.

Initially, the deadline for expatriates to correct their addresses in the Postal Vote BD app was set for December 6. However, the extension to December 9 offers additional time for expatriates to ensure their voting information is accurate.

Additionally, the EC announced that voters engaged in election duties and government employees residing outside their constituencies can register through the Postal Vote BD app. They will be able to exercise their voting rights from the date of the election schedule announcement until December 25. This also applies to voters in legal custody.

As of today, 2,27,385 expatriate Bangladeshi voters from various countries have registered through the Postal Vote BD app to participate in the upcoming national parliamentary election and the referendum. This registration information was available on the Election Commission's website at 2:15 pm.
