Dhaka: Malaysian High Commissioner Mohd Shuhada Othman today announced that Malaysia aims to attract 300,000 Bangladeshi tourists in 2026 as part of its Visit Malaysia Year campaign. The envoy emphasized that the strengthening of tourism ties and effective use of the official e-Visa system will facilitate smoother travel experiences.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the envoy made these remarks during the launch of the Malaysia Tourism Fair and the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 promotional campaign at the InterContinental Dhaka's Crystal Ballroom. Shuhada highlighted Bangladesh as one of Malaysia's strongest and fastest-growing tourist markets, with the tourism revival strategy focusing on targeted outreach to Bangladeshi travelers.

Addressing concerns about travelers being turned back at Malaysian immigration, the High Commissioner clarified that the e-Visa process is "systematic and straightforward" when applicants use the official portal. He cautioned against the use of third-party applications, which may lead to complications, including the risk of being blacklisted.

The envoy urged citizens to apply directly through the official e-Visa platform, details of which are regularly updated on the High Commission's Facebook page. He assured that assistance is available for those who seek it.

In addition to the tourism targets, Shuhada inaugurated the Festival Malaysia, an initiative aimed at promoting Malaysian culture, hospitality, and travel under the theme "Malaysia Truly Asia - Visit Malaysia 2026." He expressed gratitude to partners, including the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Tourism Malaysia, for their role in enhancing bilateral tourism cooperation.

The event featured participation from 22 different organizations, encompassing airlines, tour operators, and providers of education and medical services.
