Chattogram: A total of 50 tin-shed dwelling houses were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a slum in the Oxygen Intersection area under Bayazid Bostami Thana in Chattogram this morning. The fire erupted around 10 a.m. on Monday near the railway line, behind a factory operated by KDS Industrial Group. This area predominantly houses KDS factory workers and various other low-income families.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, there have been no reported injuries from the incident. Six units of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, drawn from different stations, managed to extinguish the fire after one and a half hours of concerted efforts, concluding at 11:30 a.m.
Fire Service Control Room sources indicated that the fire might have originated from an oven in a kitchen of Ledu Meah's slum, located beside the rail crossing area. The full extent of the damage and the definitive cause of the fire are still under investigation, these sources added.
