Pranay Verma Highlights India’s ITEC Commitment

Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma today emphasized India's dedication to South-South Cooperation through the ITEC programme, as the High Commission celebrated ITEC Day 2025 in Dhaka. Verma highlighted the initiative's role in providing need-based capacity-building support to partner countries.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Verma, speaking at a reception hosted by the High Commission of India and the ITEC Alumni Association of Bangladesh (IAAB), described ITEC as a fundamental component of India's development partnership. He pointed out that over 5,000 Bangladeshi professionals have participated in ITEC courses over the years, as noted in a press release by the Indian High Commission.

The High Commissioner expressed gratitude to Bangladeshi ITEC alumni for acting as "a bridge of friendship and collaboration" as well as "a channel for exchange of experience and knowledge" between the neighboring countries. He also praised IAAB for bringing together former participants to strengthen people-to-people connections.

The event, held at the High Commission premises, was attended by about 150 Bangladeshi ITEC alumni. Many shared their training experiences in India, highlighting the benefits gained from Indian institutions in areas like governance, technology, and sectoral expertise.

Dignitaries from several partner organizations, including the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARSO), and Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA), also participated in the event.

Established in 1964, ITEC is India's primary development cooperation platform, offering training slots to over 160 countries. Each year, more than 12,000 participants enroll in over 300 specialized courses across fields such as agriculture, governance, public health, judiciary, election management, ICT, remote sensing, renewable energy, and advanced computing.
