Rajshahi: A full-scale security drill, named "Airport Security Exercise-2025," was conducted at Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi, following international standards.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, various organizations participated in the exercise, including BCAA, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, RAB, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, APBN, Ansar, Fire Service and Civil Defense, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, and Islami Bank Medical College Hospital. The drill took place at the airport's apron area and was attended by Air Vice Marshal Mostofa Mahmud Siddique, Chairman of the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA), who served as the chief guest.
During the event, Chairman Siddique emphasized the importance of such drills in identifying weaknesses and enhancing inter-departmental coordination to ensure international standard passenger services. He stressed that integrated competence is essential for quickly and effectively addressing any unexpected situations.
Referring to a past incident at Shahjalal International Airport, Siddique highlighted the role of coordinated efforts by security forces in maintaining security and preventing incidents such as theft or subversive activities. He praised the professionalism of the security forces involved, stating that their efforts were widely acclaimed.
The event was also attended by Airport Manager Dilara Parveen, BCAA Member (Security) Air Commodore Asif Iqbal, BCAA Member (Finance) Nazmul Haque, and Member (Administration) Lablur Rahman. Airport Manager Parveen mentioned that such drills are mandatory every two years according to International Civil Aviation Organization Standards and Recommended Practices and the National Civil Aviation Security Programme. She further noted that Bangladesh Biman and US Bangla Airlines operate commercial flights from the airport, and the drill was organized to assess the current capacity to handle any undesired incidents.
