Dhaka: Bangladesh Railway (BR) has successfully identified and fined a total of 5,446 ticketless passengers in a single day. This significant operation, conducted across 162 trains, resulted in the realization of TK 10,48,810 in fares and penalties.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the mobile operations were carried out yesterday across both the eastern and western zones of the railway network. In the eastern zone, 100 Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) inspected 79 trains, uncovering 2,234 ticketless passengers. This resulted in the collection of TK 3,34,755 in fares and TK 1,50,460 in penalties, totaling TK 4,85,215. A total of 2,752 tickets were verified during these drives.
Meanwhile, in the western zone, 96 TTEs conducted inspections on 83 trains. They identified 3,212 ticketless passengers, collecting TK 3,99,320 in fares and TK 1,64,275 in penalties, amounting to a total of TK 5,63,595. Additionally, 1,805 tickets were verified during the operations.
Bangladesh Railway has stated that such drives are part of an ongoing effort to curb ticketless travel and enhance revenue collection.
