Dhaka: The Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) has established a five-member committee to investigate the catastrophic fire that engulfed the Korail Slum in the capital's Tejgaon area. The committee's formation was confirmed by Md Shahjahan Sikder, the assistant director of FSCD, Headquarters, who stated that the investigation report is expected within 15 working days.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committee comprises FSCD deputy director (operation and maintenance) Md Mamunur Rashid, assistant director Dhaka Kazi Nazmuzzaman, deputy assistant director Atish Chakma, senior station officer Tejgaon Md Nazim Uddin Sarker, and warehouse inspector Md Sohrab Hossain. This team has been tasked with uncovering the cause of the fire and assessing the damages incurred by the blaze.
The fire in the Korail Slum was finally extinguished around 9:30 am today, following 16 hours of intense efforts by the FSCD officials. Prior reports from the fire service highlighted that 19 fire-fighting units had managed to bring the fire under control by 10:35 pm on Tuesday, after five hours of relentless work. The fire had initially erupted at 5:22 pm on Tuesday, and fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
